Behaviour Management

The school respects the basic values of the home and promotes socially acceptable behaviour based on the fundamental principles of:
• the right to learn/teach without disruption;
• care and consideration for each other;
• care of the environment and property;
• the right to feel happy and safe at all times.
The school has a Behaviour Management Policy which states that children are responsible for their own behaviour. With teacher assistance, children have drawn up a comprehensive list of acceptable behaviours in classrooms and the school playground. The policy outlines various steps through which a child progresses, depending on the type of misbehaviour.
Communication with parents is always made when the child's behaviour indicates that this is necessary. Parents are requested to inform the teacher or principal when a child's school work or behaviour might be affected in some way by circumstances not known to the school (eg serious illness in family or separation).

Bicycles

The school provides a secure enclosed bike area near Orange Unit. Students should use this bike area to house their bicycle. The area is locked between 9.15am to 2.55pm for safety reasons. Student should chain their bikes to the rack with a padlock. However, the school cannot be responsible for bikes at school.
Students should not ride bikes around the school during school hours because of the risk of accidents to themselves or to other people. All students should wear bike helmets riding to and from school – this is an ACT law.
Scooters and skateboards should not come to school. They are banned from classrooms and passageways.

The Physical Activity Foundation, in conjunction with Wanniassa School, has created a school map highlighting walking and cycling routes to our school. The map also includes other details including underpasses, zebra crossings, bus stops, drop-off points and a number of other important details.

Breakfast Club

The breakfast club is run on Friday mornings from 8:30am in ‘The Link’.

Buses

The standard of student behaviour on school and route buses is the same as expected at school. The school works with ACTION to ensure that all students have pleasant and reasonable conditions during bus journeys to and from school. ACTION has the right to stop students, whose behaviour is unacceptable, from using school and route buses, and the school will support ACTION in this matter.
