Early Entry & Early Intervention

Early enrolment for children under compulsory education age is also available to children eligible for entry into Early Intervention (Special Education) programs and English as Second language programs. Children requiring Special Education support may be enrolled upon meeting certain eligibility criteria. An application may be made through the school counsellor or through the Student Support section of the Department. Full information will have to be provided to the Principal at the time of application. Further information is available on the ACT Education and Training Directorate.

Emergency Management Procedures

The school has a policy on emergency evacuations and are required to practise evacuations procedures. All staff and children participate. Please contact the staff for more information.

Enrolment Procedures

Children seeking to enter school at the preschool entry point should be four years of age on or before 30 April in that year. To be eligible to enrol, you will need to provide your child's birth certificate, immunisation details and proof of residence, ie. utilities bill, mortgage document, lease or tenancy agreement.

The ACT Education Directorate has updated the enrolment and transfer arrangements for all ACT public schools.

If you are enrolling your child to start school or if your child is transferring to an ACT public school at any stage you will need to use the same online form. This must be done on the  enrolment form.

To make this process easier for those wishing to enrol or transfer, please use the online enrolment/transfer form and Parent/carer guide to enrolment/transfer for ACT public schools located on the 'Enrolling in an ACT Public School' section of the Education and Training Directorate website https://www.education.act.gov.au/

If you have difficulty accessing a computer to complete the online enrolment form please come to the school for assistance. A translator can be arranged should you require one. Please make an appointment on (02) 6142 1870.

To make the process more equitable, there is no longer any need to queue at the school on 28 April to enrol your child. All enrolment requests are stored electronically and sent to the first choice school after the initial application period. Decisions regarding offers of enrolment/transfer are made after the closing date. Enrolments will be sorted and parents/carers will be notified if they have received a place in their preferred school.

Excursion

Excursions are part of the educational program at Wanniassa Preschool. On enrolment, parents are asked to give permission for their child to go on incidental excursions e.g. walk to the shops. If children use any form of transport, parents will be advised in advance and asked to give permission, in writing, for the child to attend. The adult/child ratio is 1:5 on major excursions or less as required.
